Sony moved into laptops with the VAIO brand in 1997
Sony began in the aftermath of World War II, during the rapid reconstruction of Japan, who gave birth to a global leader in the electronics industry. It originally had a Japanese name, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (TKT), but the founder changed the feeling that a short and catchy name using the Western alphabet would work better if the company wants international success (it was a rare practice in that time and was considered a controversial practice in Japan).
The company immediately began innovation, creating first tape players from Japan and the first successful transistor radios in the world have specialized in taking American inventions and making them smaller and better, and then export them around the world. As Sony transistor radios became smaller and smaller until they were easy to transport, sales booming, all the way until the end of the 1950s. This Sony has enough money to invest heavily in diversification and the creation of more and more new products, and the rest is history.
Since then, Sony has had many notable products: the Walkman ® music players and portable player, MiniDisc music format, the PlayStation video game consoles and even a robotic pet dog, AIBO. Today, Sony is a giant not only in electronics but also in entertainment with a movie studio (Sony Pictures), a record company (Sony Music), a division of video games (Sony Computer Entertainment) and more . Overall, the Sony Group of companies is one of the largest in Japan, and also there with the biggest companies in the world.
Sony moved to notebooks with the VAIO brand in 1997, and again found an instant success. Originally, it was a brand VAIO desktops and laptops, but Sony stopped making desktop models after laptops became a runaway success. He built a reputation of high quality components, good bundled software, low weight and long battery life, making the laptop of choice among several high-end users of Windows.
